Today we want to introduce you to Norbert of Globotreks
Norbert is an architect from Puerto Rico who hit pause on his career to travel the world and become a digital nomad.
His goal is to visit all United Nations Recognized countries and more!
We decided that we wanted to ask Norbert a few questions about his life as a digital nomad and learn a little bit more about him.
So, here you are!
1) On a scale of one to 10, how weird are you?
I’m a 7.5. I can be pretty weird, but I never get to a creepy weird 10. My weirdness is more like an introvert weirdness people might not understand. Not even sure you’re understanding this right now. 😛
2) What was the turning point that showed you that you could be a digital nomad?
I was still working as an architect in New York City but I had been working with the blog for over a year at that point. I was planning my way to quit my job and travel the world for a year – with my savings
and bit of money the blog was generating at the moment. I guess that was my introduction to the digital nomad lifestyle, but the real moment where I decided to become a digital nomad was when at the end
of my first year on the road I decided to extend it for another year since I got used to being on the road and was already earning enough to support my travels. That one year trip is now a 5+ years on the
3) How did you first get started with becoming a digital nomad?
My travel blog was the catalyst of this lifestyle. I started it as a hobby, but I felt passionate about it so worked with it just as hard as I worked as an architect, even when I was making no money out of it
(since that was not the original intention). Eventually, that hard work paid and gave me the opportunity to become a digital nomad.
4) What advice would you give to a beginning nomad?
Take risks. Once you feel you’ve made a risky move, you’ll get in “proactive mode” because you’ll try to do everything you can to make it work, even if you’re not sure how in the beginning. I left New York
City not even sure I would last a whole year. Throughout that year on the road I enjoyed every single adventure I threw myself at, but then later at night I would sit down on my own to work and continue
developing my blog to turn it into a business.
5) What’s your superpower … or spirit animal?
I have a lame superpower… I can crack pretty much every bone in my body, including my ears. Yup, my ears.
Spirit animal wise… I’m definitely a monkey. Love those litter buggers!
6) How would you describe yourself in one word?
7) Where can we find out more about you and your business?
You can read about my travels and adventures on www.globotreks.com. My little kingdom on the web.
8) What would you do in the event of a zombie apocalypse?
I’d build my own fortress (use those architecture skills, after all), and somehow figure out a way to make the zombies dance to Thriller for my own entertainment. Nah, who am I kidding… I’d probably die the
second day since I’m too lazy to cook, much less hunt for my own food.
